Worldly Baby Shower

In October I helped host a baby shower for a family friend. But, the baby is still in the belly so no cute baby pictures today. Just some pictures of a fun party.

One of the ideas for the shower was to make it as green and earth friendly as possible as to honour the Mom to be and her personal philosophies. We decided on a theme of Welcome to our World.
The invites were made using old maps from outdated map books and most of the decorations were too. We used cloth napkins and real dishes, which is actually kinda nice.
Map pinwheels and map hearts. All ideas courtesy of, you guessed it, pinterest!
My sis decorated the cake with marshmellow fondant and it was delish as well as geographically accurate.

The food was internationally themed and almost all made from scratch by my sister and my Mom.
Cool idea for the cabbage dip bowl from pinterest (where else?).
And when all was said and done the new Momma had a house full of baby things and I had these beauties left over.
More than a week later my house is still filled with flowers. Lovely.

Decorating with Orange

We had a baby shower upstairs the middle of October, so the Living Room was covered with maps and globes and great flowers. I will write more about that later. But the downstairs Family Room is where the kids spend a lot of time, so I put a few pumpkin touches in there for them (well mostly me) to enjoy.

We had our pumpkins for a few weeks. I put them on the very deep window ledge so we could enjoy them before they were carved. Makes the lack of blinds seem useful maybe even intentional when really it is a result of procrastination:)Then I just added all my fake pumpkins from last year's stash to the mantel decor. I like the turquoise and orange together. It's fun and playful.
Here is one more little project for 'the kids'. My friend Stacy spotted the cool inspiration for this on Pinterest.
We threw our version together at the last minute. It's Cinderella and her carriage! I will probably try this again next year with more 3D embellishments if I have more time.

A few new things

I have a very lovely new camera.
It has a cool vintage-y snap off case that makes it look all tourist in the 60's.
The pictures my husband takes with it are lovely.
The pictures I take are not.
They stink.
SO here are some stinky pictures of 2 new purchases for fall...
nude t strap flats from Aldo

...and a vintage key necklace from Jewelscapes on ETSY. It seems the shop has changed/closed so I am glad I finally ordered this necklace I had my eye on.
I love it!

Maybe soon I will have house pictures if I can figure out the camera:)

InstaFriday

Next week I will figure out how to link to the actual InstaFriday linky party. But today I just want to get started.
So here is the fruit of a recent Walmart expedition- new umbrellas for everyone! Luckily the rain has cooperated and we have had plenty of opportunities to use them.

Oh Pinterest

I just read a story about an enormous metal chicken. I had to walk away in the middle as I was laughing too hard to read. BE WARNED there are a few naughty words in there, but just bl**p them in your head, it will be fine.

I am supposed to be tidying my house and getting dressed but instead I am reading about big metal chickens on pinterest. Oh, pinterest you make the internet even more of a time waster:)

A Little Fall Decorating

Last time I said I bought a little tray. I think it looks great with pumpkins on it, don't you? Then I copied Pinterest (surprise, surprise) and created a candy corn banner for over the fireplace. Just using supplies from the art drawer, it was super easy. We bought some mini gourds at Superstore...
I also put together the soft pumpkins I make every year...
Made from 3 of these...
Wrapped in orange fabric scraps and with construction paper stem and leaves. I love that these are kid friendly, they can handle them and put them in various places around the house as they help me decorate for fall.
Let the season of chicken soup, rainboots and pumpkins begin!

A new blue accent

Got a tray at Homesense the other day...

Love the colour and it was cheap. Cute and cheap are my top 2 criteria!
Now just deciding where to put it. Hmmm. Since blue is the accent colour in my entire house I have a few rooms to choose from.

Did I mention my camera got smashed hence the iphone only photos on the blog lately? At this moment my husband is at the camera store hopefully buying a new one. Might go crazy and take a bunch of new pics this week. I guess I have to clean the house first, so maybe not:)
